GUILLEM JUAN

Statement

My artistic practice revolves around concepts such as memory, representation of space and certain power dynamics through architecture.

Mainly through drawing, I articulate new realities using the language and graphic systems of architecture. Twisted presentations of these tools allow me to question some common representation spaces of the contemporary individual.

Non-places and counter-spaces are mixed in my work process, which borrows images from utopian and surveillance (yet to be built) architectures that appear broken and juxtaposed. Fragmentation, deconstruction and transparency give way to new spaces and impossible constructions as places of doubt and representation (both material and imaginary) in which the grammar of power emerges from the trace of memory.

Achieving this new representation through the combination of different layers of meaning (which suppress one another in many cases) suggests crevices that disrupt our experience, ultimately creating new paradoxes.
